SLOW FOOD MIAMI HOSTS FEBRUARY “SNAIL SOCIAL” AND FARM TOUR

Miami, FL (February 4, 2016) — Slow Food Miami presents its sixth “Snail Social” roaming Happy Hour event on Saturday, February 6, 2016. This time around, it will be a special edition with a farm tour at Teena’s Pride from 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM, followed by drinks and appetizers at RedLander Restaurant at Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery from 5 PM – 7 PM. The farm tour portion is free and open to the public.

Teena’s Pride is a third generation family sustainable farm in Homestead, FL that provides the community, restaurants, and chefs with the highest quality produce including heirloom and vine-ripe tomatoes, heritage eggplant, sweet corn, salad greens, assorted herbs and vegetables. Teena’s Pride uses a balanced holistic approach to farming, with an uncompromised commitment to being socially and environmentally sound.

Helmed by Chef Dewey LoSasso, a Snail of Approval nominee, RedLander Restaurant focuses on farm-to-table service, local ingredients and fresh flavors. Miami Brewing Company, pioneered by Peter Schnebly of Schnebly’s Redland Winery & Brewery, uses locally grown fruits, spices and herbs as its inspiration for new flavor combination.

The Snail Social Happy Hour appetizers and beer pairings will be offered at a discounted price, including beers selected by brew master Jacob Lindsay (another Snail of Approval nominee) and made on-site at Miami Brewing Company. Menu suggestions follow:

·        Rustic Spent Grain Bread/Gator Tail Brown Ale – a pairing in every sense of the word, the bread is made with the same grains that produce the beer. Gator Tail is an American brown ale with roasted chocolate notes and a nutty finish.
·        Orange Is The New Sour Guava Wings/Berliner Weisse – sour-orange-mojo-marinated wings with guava BBQ sauce glaze, paired with traditional Berliner Weisse infused with sour oranges.
·        Pulled Pork Tacos/Vice IPA – sour-orange-mojo-marinated pork with fresh pepper slaw marries beautifully with Vice IPA. A true Miami IPA, it offers a fresh hop aroma with a smooth round flavor to finish.
·        Flourless Chocolate Torte/Cafe con Leche Milk Stout – a chocolate torte with caramel and Bee Heaven Farm allspice pairs with silky chocolate cream stout with notes of coffee for a truly memorable dessert.

This month’s Snail Social will begin at Teena’s Pride, located at 20025 SW 270th Street in Homestead, followed by bites at RedLander Restaurant at Schnebly Redland’s Winery & Brewery, located at 30205 SW 217th Avenue in Homestead.

This event is open to the public. There will be a Snail Social hosted by different Snail of Approval chefs and restaurants throughout Miami on the second Tuesday of every month. Kids are welcome.

Other participating chefs and restaurants will be announced throughout the season via Slow Food Miami’s mailing list and social media tagged with #snailsocial. Follow Slow Food Miami on Twitter @slowfoodmiami and Facebook to stay current.

About RedLander Restaurant at Schnebly Redland’s Winery and Brewery (Miami Brewing Company)
Helmed by Chef Dewey LoSasso, RedLander Restaurant focuses farm-to-table service, local ingredients and fresh flavors. Schnebly Redland’s Winery and Brewery is a 30-acre farm drawing on the harvest to create exotic wines infused with mangoes, avocados and other non-grape fruits, garnering a 2008 Best Winery Award from Miami New Times. The restaurant was also awarded the 2015 New Times Best Restaurant to Take Out-Of-Towners. In 2011, Miami Brewing Company, the first commercial brewery in Miami, was added to the farm and winery, taking inspiration from Miami flavors, unlocking new taste combinations using fruits, spices, and herbs in their beers.

About Chef Dewey LoSasso
Dewey LoSasso, Culinary Director at Schnebly Winery and The RedLander Restaurant, is known for combining his creative vision with a pitch perfect palate and a hefty dose of whimsy. After graduating from the renowned CIA, LoSasso worked at New York City’s acclaimed restaurant, Sign of the Dove, before finally making the transition from the harsh winters to the land of perpetual summer, Florida. LoSasso’s restaurant, North One 10, received numerous awards and critical acclaim. In 2009, LoSasso accepted the position of executive chef of The Forge, a South Florida dining institution. During his four-year tenure at The Forge, LoSasso led the rebirth of the iconic restaurant, creating modernized interpretations of classic dishes from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s, emphasizing farm-to-table and ocean-to-table ingredients.

With more than 30 years of culinary experience, LoSasso was the natural choice to spearhead the new
restaurant/catering venture at Schnebly Winery and the Miami Brewing Company. In addition to the vast food/beverage program at the iconic winery, the talented toque also oversees all food concept development including a future lodge element, banquets and private events.
